Irish Night: Enter The Haggis and Hair Of The Dog

If you’ve ever visited Ireland, you know that it’s the home of  kind people, delicious beer, and quality Celtic music. On July 14, The City of Albany, Key Bank, and our event sponsors bring Ireland to you with Alive at Five veterans Enter The Haggis and Hair Of The Dog!

The Haggis Head Movement

In 1995 Toronto, Canada, a Celtic Folk Rock band was born, but this wasn’t just any band. After 8 acclaimed albums, performing at Celtic festivals across the globe, and even appearing on national television, Enter The Haggis became kind of a big deal. Just ask their most dedicated fans, known as “Haggis Heads.”

These die-hard fans completely funded three of the band’s albums through crowdfunding platforms, raising a groundbreaking $150,000. This kind of money isn’t just pocket change; Haggis Heads are passionate about this group of musicians, both musically and personally.

“Everywhere they went, there was a cluster of Haggis-heads around them, and one who lived in the area would throw a party at their house for all the attendant Haggis-heads; the band themselves would sometimes come. Music blasted, alcohol flowed, and the good times were never-ending” (Haggis-heads: A Fan Community, N. Neal Paradise).

Enter The Haggis has created a tight-knit community with their followers, notorious for hanging with fans after performances and inviting them to the recording studio.

“I can proudly say that I’m friends with the band. Every time I see them, they remember my name and greet me warmly. But the great thing about ETH is that every fan who meets them can say the same. They have a level of connection with their fans (or Haggis-heads) to which big stadium bands simply can’t compare.” (Haggis-heads: A Fan Community, N. Neal Paradise).

Enter The Haggis performed at Alive at Five on July 27, 2006, bringing local and traveling Haggis Heads to the Albany Corning Preserve.

.. 10 years later, we can’t wait to have them back again for Irish Night!

Opening for ETH are local legends Hair Of The Dog. This Capital Region Celtic Rock band grew a following and a national reputation by playing at various venues and festivals, in Upstate NY and around the world.

We welcomed Hair Of The Dog to the Alive at Five stage on July 12, 2007.
