Rain Policy

What happens if it rains?

The City of Albany is committed to providing free, world-class entertainment and events to residents and visitors. However, as all our events take place outdoors, we may be forced to move or, on rare occasions, cancel certain shows in severe weather. Safety is our first priority.

In the event of inclement weather, Alive at Five, Albany Riverfront Jazz Fest, or Dad Fest may be moved to the rain location at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch, located under the 787 underpass at Colonie & Water Streets.

Tulip Festival, Alive at Five, Dad Fest, and  Jazz Fest are RAIN OR SHINE events. We will always do our best to make sure the show goes on as planned, but if weather becomes dangerous to our performers, crowds and staff, these events may be canceled altogether. In the rare event of a full cancellation, we will do our best to reschedule performers on future events whenever possible.

In the event of inclement weather, we reserve the right to cancel the Albany Last Run 5K race due to weather  conditions that may cause the running surface to be hazardous to the runners’ safety.

How and when will I know if a show has been moved to a rain location?

A rain call will be made by the morning of each event. We will immediately update this website, as well as our Facebook & Twitter accounts. You may also call our office at (518) 434-2032 to check the status; if no one answers, our voicemail message will be updated with a rain location. A press release goes out to all major local media outlets, so check any of your normal news sources.  Unless you see it otherwise in one of these places, the show is going on as regularly scheduled.

It stopped raining, will the concert be moved back outdoors?

Stage and site setup for these events takes a dedicated crew working all day. Once we've decided on a location the morning of the event, we cannot move the show again. We try to make the best informed decision possible, but we all know how unpredictable upstate New York weather can be.
